A reaction has set in in the sugar market, and prices are now experiencing a decidedly downward tendency.
Pakis, July 9.
Telegrams are to hand from Tunis announcing that the bombardment of Sfax by the French war vessels has resulted in a partial destruction of the town. The Arabs are, however, still gathered in force in the'"neighbourhood, and continue to show a determination to resist the French authority. The rebellious feeling is moreover reported to be spreading throughout the Xairawan district.

A grand review of Volunteers will be held before the Queen at Windsor next month. It is expected that fully 56,000 men will be under arms on the occasion.

The latest bulletin issued to-day reports that President Garfield continues to make steady progress towards recovery.

It is anuounced that the English financial houses, Baring Brothers aud C, J. Haiubro and Co., have contracted with the Italian Government for a new loan, the amount of which, has not however, yet transpired. It will be issued next week, and upon conditions which will obviate the present monetary stringency now felt in Italy.
