ALBURNIA.

The manager's report for the fortnight is as fallows :—" Sons of Freedom tunnel: The contractors are still making good headway, having driven 82 feet since starting. I have this day advertised for fresh tenders for 200 feet, or to the Whau eastern boundary. The reef at present is very much broken, and the quartz is rerj white in appearance. Lincoln Castle section : Stoping has been carried on here since last report, but as we broke through into some old workings, I hare discontinued stoping, and have started the men to take an underhand stope at the point, where we obtained some gold in driving the level. 160 feet level: I have had a chamber cut out and a start made to sink the winze to meet the Sons of Freedom tunnel. It will take some days before I can speak positively as to the value of the reef, but at present it is a fine compact body of stone, full,of good looking minerals, and* as the winze will be sunk right under the run of gold obtained in the level above, I am in great hopes that we shall get something good at this point. Hanging-wall leader: This drive has now been extended a distance of 41 feet. The leader is very small, but has not shown any gold as yet. 70 feet level: The crosscut towards the Star of the South reef is now in a distance of 37 feet. Tiie ground is very hard, and there being only two men employed in it, progress is consequently very slow. The, winze being sunk at the junction is now down a depth of 41 feet. We have been hindered for some days owing to foul air, or the depth would have been greater. It is now, however, greatly improved, and better progress is being made. The leader is small, but hitherto has always shown a little gold. Stoping has also been carried on this leader, which constantly shows colours of gold, but. no picked stone. Battery level: As mentioned in my last report, I have started to stope over drive above Christie's tribute. The leader Still retains the same character as last reported. Battery j During the month there hare been 124 Government tracks of quartz crushed for the return of 76ozs 9dwts 12grs melted gold,—l am, &c, Thos. Kadfobd."
