After giving the matter a very careful coasideration it wus resolved to inform the Board of Health that the Governors did not consider it necessary fco close the school, as the whole of the pupils were from about 30 families, all of whom were well known, and in which the disease could at once be traced should it make its appearance ; that none of the families had been or were at present infected ; that the schools were well fumigated and ventilated ; also that Dr Kilgour gave it as his opinion that do danger whatever would be caused by keeping the school open.
The Government have stated that the supply of school buildings was now pretty equal through the colony, and Government did not think there would be any uecesaicy for a speeiol scheme for distribution of the vote. The chrotnograph, or manifold copying pad, niiinufuctured by Mr J. W. Hall, chemist »nd druggist, of Owen street, is most highly spoken of by all persons who have used it. By its use 40 or 50 copies of h letter can be obtained in a few minutes, and the cost is very trifling—for letter paper size, 7s 6d ; and foolscap size. 12s 6d. Mr Hull will explain the mode of using the pad to any one calling upon him, and letters copied by the process are to be seen at his establish* ment, Owen street. One of our manufacturers took in one evening numerous copies of thirteen foolscap sheets of along specification, thereby saving himself a great deal of labor.
We are informedthut the Naval Brigade have arranged to hold a quadrille party in their Hall every Wednesday evening during the remainder of the winter season. As the music will be rendered by their own band— which has, especially of late, become very efficient—and as the charge for admission is very moderate, we have no doubt but that the lovers of a " hop" will attend in large numbers. Strangers are to be admitted by introduction of a member of the Brigade.

How is it that tbe Weekly News has committed such a fraud as to palm off upon the public, in this week's issue, as a portrait of Professor Tyndal, what is really a cartoon portrait of Proiessor Owen. Any one who likes to ascertain this fact may refer to the Volume of Cartoons in the Thames Public Library, published by Tinsley Brothers, London, 1b73. It might also be fairly inquired, what is the connection between the skeleton of the Megatherium and the laws of heat, air, and sound, which Professor Tyndall has made his special study.
