The charge of criminal libel preferred by Massey, town clerk of Dunedin, against Allen, seedsman, will come off ou Thursday. It is alleged that the libel consists in the statement by Allen that Massey (both being interested as mortgagees in a coach-building premises in High street), had offered him a sum of money to buru the premises down.
Auother libel case is reported as likely to arise out of a petition which is now being taken round;thc Mount Ida district, praying for the removal of Warden Kobiuson. A solicitor, who it is said has been instrumental in getting up the petition will be the defendant.
The passengers and crew of the Charles Woraley are to be transferred to the Quarantine Island. The cargo will be discharged into lighters where she now lies.
The Licensing Court refused the application for renewal of the Darley Hotel, stating they believed no single witness for the defence in the police case. The most disgusting immorality had been practised in the house.
