THE LOVE TO BE.
[a SOKG], . ;■_ '.. Gazing 1 with a timid glauce On the brooklet's swift advauce, On the river's broad expanse. ■
—Longfellow.
I wonder who will lore roe, Hold me dearer that the rest, With a heart's devotion Offer Truest homage and his best. If he be a man of mettle, )f for others still tie feel, And if action follows insight, Him I'll wed for woe or weal,
I wonder why he'll love me, Whether face or figure pleas >, Or fruition long w^thholden, Of deep craving in me sees, If bia soul is full of music, : Ordered with discernment fine, And affection lends its sweetness, Then 'twill find repose in mine. >
I wonder mlien he'll find me ; In the ardent flush of youth, Or. tamed and aweitrtick later By the lineaments of truth. When Prime hath shaped him steadfast, True to purpose, calm in mien, Will he ask me for his helpmeet ? Will he seek me for* hi* queen ? Though his lockg'be flecked with silver, Be his heart robust and true. ' . All my lore ehftll nceet his; blending In a strength we never knew. —GvrENDoijtK. ,
