ALBURNIA.

The manager reports to the directors under date 20th June, 1881, as follows :— I hare the honor to report as follows, viz.:—Sons of Freedom level, Lincoln Castle section: Stoping is still being carried on, a little gold showing occa- . sionally. Main funnel: Driving has been carried on in the last fortnight, during which time the tunnel has been extended 41£ feet, making a total of 53| feet since starting. For the last Bor 9 days the reef showed signs of improvement, being more compact and well defined, but it is now again slightly broken. 100 feet level: A drive has been started on the hangingwall leader on this level, which is now in a distance of 20 feet. For so far the leader is very small, and as yet we have not aeen gold. I purpose, however, oarrying this drive on to the junction of the oid specimen leader to meet the winze now being sunk on that junction at 70 feet level? iO feet level: I. have started a winze here at junction of old sppcimen leader with the hanging-wall leader or dropper. It is now down a depth of 25 feet, and for so far the leader has shown gold whenever broken down, and I am in hopes when the block is opened up it will pKr*e a payable one. Stoping is also Deinß carried on on haflging-wall leader, '" where we are procuring the largest portion of our crushing dirt at present. I mentioned in my last having started men to "* push on the crosscut to cut the " Star of the South" reef. For some distance since the last starting the ground appeared more favourable for working ; it has now again, however, become v»ry hard, and but slow progress is being made. Whau level: Sinking on " Star of the South" reef has been carried on during the fortnight; the depth is now about 40 feet. As I anticipated, the junction with "Success" reef took place a few days since, but -Iwas disappointed to find the reef did nofimprove at this junction, as might have been expected. Battery level: Since discontinuing the drive towards North Devon boundary, I have had Borne men 'engaged in stoping over this drive, this being the point directly over where Christie and party obtained their gold. The reef is small, and shows colors of gold, but as yet we have found nothing of any importance.—l have, &c.j (signed) Thos. Badfobd." k

NEW NORTH DEVON.

■^br the last few days the men have been engaged in starting an intermediate drive 45 feet below the 70-feet level. Very little impression has, however, been made upon it, owing to the hardness of the lode. The reef is from three to four feet in thickness, but its size is evidently increasing along the back of the drive. The quartz promises to turn out payable. A start will soon be made to drive westward, in the direction of the Alburnia. and according to the dip of the main shot 7 of gold; this is where the best part of the reef should be. Good indications are still met with in the winze in the westward drive at the Whau level. The trial crurirings at the Herald battery promise to turn out payable.

OLD GOLDEN CALF.

The manager is at present engaged cleaning out an old winze at No. 3 level, sunk some 2 years ago. He intends to take a few tons out from here to test its quality,. Stoping is going on as usual at So. 2 level, but no change to report has taken place.

GOLD KETUBNS

Kubantjt HiLL.—Bateman and. party have put thrdugh a crushing of one ton which produced loz lOdwts gold.
