RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
THIS DAY
(Before H. Kenrick, Esq., J&.M.) ABANDONMENT OP A LICENSED HOUSE,
Kobert Cleaver was charged with abandoning his licensed house at Tairua for more than thirty days. Defendant admitted the offence, but said that he had been obliged to leave tho house by Mr Banks, the owner, who had not been able to get the license transferred. Fie had given Mr Banks a letter giving him authority to carry on the business, and thought that by doing this he had legally transferred the license.
His Worship cancelled the license, but as defendant had been under ttie impression that he had transferred the licence, no penalty would be inflicted' Court adjourned. '.
