HOPEFUL.

The manager expects to be crushing the week after next. A little gold is coming to hand frequently, the manager having now close on half .a cwt. of picked stone on hand. The weekly report is as follows :—There is no change to report on in the new level tunnel. The total distance driven on the cross lode, from its junction with the main reef, is 109 feet. 1 intend to drive the same a few feet further, and, if the junction is not met with, I purpose to try to sink a winze down 30 or 40 feet, just inside of the junction, on the Golden Calf reef, on No. 2 level, if the water will permit. Then I shall see how the junction is going down, and be better able to judge its position with the drive in the new level tunnel. No. 2 level, No. 1 leader : I saw no gold in the last breaking down in the drive. I had to stop it for the present; as the sink was deep enough for another underhand stope of 7 feet. In breaking down the same I obtained lolbs of good picked stone, worth over |oz to the lb. There is gold showing still in the bottom. I shall not sink it again for a week or two, as; I want to carry this underhand stope along the drive eaetward, to see if the gold carries down in the same. I have 451bs of good picked stone on hand. I shall have about 20 tons to crush in three weeks' time. WAIOTAHI. At the No. .3. level the different stopes are turning out payable dirt. The No. 5 lode east is now made again, but does not show any gold. The leader in the drive west is also looking better, and a little gold was seen in the stone last week. The lode is very small in this place, owing to being in tight ground. At the No. 2 level the drive east on the small lead is in better country, and some gold is expected.
