Melboxjenb, This day.
James Henderson, reputed owner of the steamer Ferret, alias India, made an attempt last evening to escape from Pentridge Gaol. He had filed away the bars of his cell window, and had succeeded in making his exit from the cell, when he was discovered by the warders, and again placed in custody. He now stands committed for trial on charges of conspiracy in connection with the Ferret.

In the Legislative Council last night, after further debate, various amendments to the Reform Bill made by the Assembly were rejected without: division, aod the House then adjourned to Wednesday next.
It is generally expected that in view of the action of the Council, Goverment will abandon the Reform Bill. A caucus of Ministerialists will be held on Tuesday next to take the present position of affairs into consideration, and decide upon a course of action.
Sydney, Friday. A local mechanic has succeeded in fit* ting up a sculling boat with sliding seat, which acts as a' motor in a similar manner to that boat in which Hanlan is said to have rowed the race for the Championship of the World.
