AUCKLAND
This day. ■: A fire at McLean's, Fencourt, beyond Cambridge, destroyed a large two-storey building consisting of stables and hay loft. A i ten horse power engine, chaff cutter, and £100 worth of grass seed and implements were also consumed. The fire originated in the loft, but the origin is unknown. The premises were insured in the New Zealand Office. At the meeting of the Grammar School Gorerbors to :^ay, Mr Tole, M.H.R., said he heard that boys in warehouses were being induced to sign a memorial against the university members of the Board. He would guarantee to get ten signatures for every one procured against them. v At the Waste Lands Board, Mr Firth asked whether Sir George Grey had applied to inspect the books of the Board in answer to his (Firth's) challenge,to him to prove his. statement that the board favored big landholders. The reply was that no application bad. been made. In an action brought by the Telegraph Newspaper Co., •£ Ghristchurch, against Lptti Wilmott for £11, judgment was given for plaintiffs. !" : ; l
