(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib,—l am glad to bear that steps have been taken to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Major Murray, by sending a requisition to Government on behalf if Captain Wildman. That gentleman will, undoubtedly, work in a generous spirit with the various corps. No more popular officer could be chosen in the district, and a popular officer must be had. It would be of no use to select by seniority, for Captain Taipari would be out of place; then the next senior; ■ Captain Mennie, is noways ambitious of the honour. Before either of the senior Captains, however, comes Major Watson, who joins with the other officers in their lequest. to the Government for the appointment of Captain Wildman, so that there is every prospect of the Thames Volunteers being commanded by a gentleman possessing that tact and practicability" without which the Thames force would languish and decay.—l am, &c, Semper Eadek.
