tghnhmkj,llk

The crushing of a trial parcel of four loads from the No. 2 reef at No. 1 level, was finished to-day tor the yield of lfozs gold. Thin is «t the rate of 6Jwts per; ton, and barely payable. It is however, something , to know that such can be obtained in a stretch of country never prospected, and fully 100 feet from any other known reef in the mine It will encourage the manager to further effort*. Yesterday two or three pounds of nice picked stone were obtained from the stope 37 feet below the No. 3 level in the wiuze. The manager^ now through the No. 2 reef at No. 1 level. The quartz has been terribly herd. It is intended to drive ahead for No. 1 reef, though the manager has a suspicion that the two lod< s are. incorporated. His report for the past week is as follows:—"There is very little change to report since my last. The boiler inspector was here on Wednesday, and since then -there hare been constant breakages in the feed supply to our boiler. I took down the leader in the winze. It is a nice looking leader, but' I saw no gold. I started to slope a piece where the last gold was seen—about 37 feet down from the No. 3 lerel. lam now No. 2 reef, No. I level, and intend driving ahead a few feet to see- if we can find anything of No. 1 reef. I almost think they are laying on each other; a few days, will tell. There is no change in Herival's. I am taking down 4 loads from No. 2 reef No. 1 level. I shall follow with the dirt from No. 3 level winze: in a day or two, and we shall know their worth.—T. B. Hicks." * .

OLD GOLDEN CALF,

Eetorting will take place at the end of the neck when a return equiralent to an ounce per load is anticipated. Yesterday the drite at No. 2 level was 32 feet into the lode and no sign of the footwali. The qnartz lode continues strong, A contract was let yesterday at 16s per foot for driving on the lode at No. 3 level, and a start was made to day. The rise has been suspended, and the men there employed bare been started sloping above the No. 2 level.
