The usual monthly inspection of the Naval Brigade took place last evening by M^jor Withers. Lieu«v Lawless was in command of the brigade, Captain Wildman being unavoidably absent through il'ness. The muster was fairly good, some 100 members of all ranks being present, end they all passed through the ordeeA very successful, their arms and accoutrements being in capital condition. The HauraH Engineers were then inspected by Major Withers, the muster, including band being very creditable. The officers present were Capt. Small, Lieut. O'3ullivan, and subLieut. Lejdon. After inspection by the gallant Major, they were put through a variety of movements by Lieut. O'Sullivan all of which were executt d in a creditable manner. Captain Small then maiched the company on to the reclaimed land in front of the hall and exercisel them iv skirmishing drill &c. This evening, the Scottish Battalion will parade for inspection, the No. 1 Company being for the first time under the command of Captain Johnstone. After inspection, the No. 2 Company will proceed to the election of a captain and any other vaoanews that it may be necessary to fill. A full muster is therefore much to be desired.
We regret to hear that we were only partially correct in the statement, concerning the _«ejmlflt_6»«A«!_casei_-n£&eorMig in last night s issue. It appears that, the sei?ant girl referred to was unwell, and Dr Payne being called in discovered that she was suffering from sore throat, while her pulse was at 105 —two strong symptoms of the approach of the disease. Now the g'rl's mistress was in her confinement, and the highest medic 1 authorities say there is great danger of scarlet fever being contract iby pirtu- ient women, indeed there are only three cases on record of recovery under . such circumstances. Dr Payne, we maintain, was perfectly right on observing the symptoms at once ti order the girl's removel from the home. If the girl's sickness only proves to ba a feverish cold no harm has been done, whereas had it been what the Doctor supposed it was the life of the ; mistress and likewise that of her babe would in all probability have been

ON Saturday we saw au historical relic of some interest,— namely, a portion of the famous fligstaff cut down by Johnny Heke, at the Bay of Islands, in 184* Judge Gillies is also said to hare a portion of the same fl tgstdff, which he values on account of its association with the early history and wars of the colony.
