The enquiry re the^ Tararua disaster was resumed on Saturday. Wm. Hill, a steerage passenger was examined, and said in his opinion the first mate did not act with judgment in taking hio boat so near the breakers. Wm. Matheson, Captain of the schooner Pioneer, deposed that his vessel was lying at Fortrose on the morning of the wreck. He borrowed a horse and went to the scene. He did not think any passengers could have been landed after noon on Friday, and was of opinion that a light on Waipapa or Slope Point would hare saved the ship. James Mills, manager of the Union Company said, the chief officer had been in the Albion until March last, and until recently Captain Garrard had held a high opinion of him, but lately had changed that opinion. Witness received a telegram from Capt. Garrard as he wascoming down the coast, asking fora change. The chief officer on hig arrival it PortChaU mers had a conversation with the Capt., and the result was that he; decided to change the chiefs officer on the Tararua's return from Melbourne. This concluded the evidence, and the court adjourned until Tuesday.
