Mining Review of the Week.
Again the race has had one of its periodical stoppages, causing a delay in crashing, and enabling the water to gain in the Queen of Beauty's shaft. If all we hear is true concerning the state of tfe race, this is not likely to be the only accident during the coming winter. The Queen of Beauty Company are fitting up the old Piako boilers to use in case of emergeucy, and we hare no doubt but that some of the batteries dependent od the race will .make some sort of provision.
Several influential mining men here are favorably impressed with the scheme for prospecting the deep levels. One of them said, "If I had my way I would start deep level sinking at Block 27, aa I believe all the gold iv the district trends that
Wav" While on this matter it may be remarked that none of the companies have yet made^auy attempt to P^spect fromnhe 400 feet level, although that d»Dth is kept clear at great expense. At :. apparent that the different boards ot director* have no faith in the ground or the shareholders are totally devoid of enterprise. .
