HAPE CREEK MINE.
Hearn and party finished up the week 8 crushing for a return of 630?s 7dwts, making with last week Jl3ozs melted gold. They expect similar weekly returns from the present appearance of the lode on which they are working. The above is the result of 100 loads of stuff. KUBAN UI HILL. The manager reports that the lode in the Belfast section is cut off by a clay band and he has started to crosscut for it. The lode has a promising appearance in the stjpes. The report after referring to the other workings concludes as follows.:— We hare been, and still are, busy with tribute parrels aud public crushing, and so hare been thrown in arrears with our own crushing. There are large quantities of our Teutonic and Belfast blanket washings waiting berdan treatment, and, until I hare seen the result of these, I hare paid off ten men, and have started six others to open on ground elsewhere. SOUTHEB^T CEOSS, In consequence of the poorness of the clashing the manager has suspended operations on the No. 4 leader, and the men hare been put on to drive on the specimen leader at the tramway level. I extract the following frouj the manager's
last report-.—"The leader we were getting gold iv and driring on aft the 40 feet -"TO I.l^**** ci Rtt feet in the Ranging wall of the specimen leader. At the battery level, m trying to hole to the rise stopes, I found go ? d stone witll _ld in specimen leader, so I thought it advisable tosinkon it, as it would be t^ much mullock to take out to carry the two leaders together. The winze is down a distance of 15 feet, but have seen no more j gold, although the leader looks well and is ; a good size. I hare been unable to get to I the leader in the hanging-wall as yet, on i account of the men who are sinking the j winze being in the way, and the ground j .having to be timbered up, but I intend to I get down and resume driring as soon as it is convenient. I have stopped work on JN© 4 leaders, as the quartz that was put through last crushing from here was rather poor. I have put two men that were working here to drive on the specimen leader, at the tramway level. 100 feet level: The rise on No. 3 lode is up a distance of 50 feet, and there is still a strong body of quartz carrying a good deal of mineral in the stove, but the trial lot that, is being put through from here at the Moanatairi battery is -very poor; it is not completed, as the battery is stopped for inspection of boilers I have withdrawn the men from the rise, and have put them on to try a leader that' gold was found in some time ago, in towards the air shaft, which I believe to be the specimen leader. STAR OF TE PAPA. A partial cleaning up for Adams and party took place today for the yield of 28ozs 14dwts gold. Before .the crushing is finished 45 tons will be treated.
