NEW NORTH DEVON.
The lode has not yet been pi«ked op a£ the 70 feet lerdj beyond the break, though a few Btyngers of quarta are met with occasionally* In the face of the drive at the 16 feet letel the lode ijs several feet in thickness. The.quartz is a strong compact stone, and has a kindly appearance, bat no gold is seen. The break on 70 feet and Whau levels is one of the most singular changes that has been met in mining here: for some time. That * strong bciy of stone such as the Sons of Freedom reef is should be cut off so completely : as to defy ell attempts at discovering' agaia is certainly a curious circumstance. An opinion has been expressed, and it is saining ground, that the break must have heaved the lode a long distance into one of the walls, and that ere it is discovered again, ■ prospecting cross-cuts must be driven both ways.
