TIMARU.
This day,
A man, name unknown but supposed to be a resident in Waimate, fell off the train near Saltwater Creek, yesterday evening. He lodged in the cow-catcher, bursting his head open, and had one arm cut off, and also the other hand. A terrific, southerly squall passed over the town on Sunday morning, accompanied by a heavy rain. The schooner Amaranth dragged her anchors, and. when last seen was in the surf close to the. beach about six miles from town. The crew went on board the brigantine Edree, which also dragged some distance. The Amaranth was loaded with coals from Grey mouth. The insurance is not known.
