Mining matters are'not so brisk aa they might be up hgre^btft^ suppose now that we have the battery finished we will hare a chance of seeing what the district is made of.
The Aroha Company hare forwarded 8 tons to the mill, and from the show on the plates it ought to yield well. The battery has had to stop crushing owing to want of-..water;--__ - The .Marvel claim is sending down a trial crushing, and if the shareholders' statements are to be relied on they hare a good thing. • : . The Auckland shareholders are also sending down a small crushing from the same locality, and they expect aAayable return. " The Prince ot Wales are sending down some of their big lode, and I am still of the opinion that too much stone has been taken out as crushing dirt. The All Nations have a large parcel at the mill. They certainly; deserve success for the amount of work they have done and are doing. ■ . ■:/[. •■ : ; i; '.''*"'?;";;-; In the Waitoki work is being pushed on, and fair prospects are obtained out of a large body of stone. • The No. 1 South is still doing a lot of prospecting. Our Boys expect a good return from their crashing. - In the Shotover the ground still continues hard.. Mr John Moore has. been appointed manager of the Morning Star mine, and this has given the shareholders satisfaction, as no more practical man is to be found in the district. The road to this . mine is being pushed on, the cost is to be borne by the Smile of Fortune and the Star. The manager of the Smile of Fortune, Mr Thomas Arnold, is opening up the mine, and as soou as the road ii finished will forward a trial crushing of 25 tons to the battery, which, from the prospects obtained, ought to pay well,
