TAPU MINING.
There is a great improvement in minin-g matters at Hastings. A gentleman from there informs me that Mr Neves has had surveyed a lease of 5 acres on ground which he has thoroughly tested. His reason for not pegging out befqre was that there was no ci ashing power available at the time of the discovery. Pepper and party have rovolutionisee the mattjr, however, they having purchased Buckland's battery, and are renovating it. .These gentlemen apparently mean business as fioy have erected residences for the battery manager and workmen at a cost of £200. There is reason .to believe that the speculation will be a good one, as some hundreds of tons of quartz are now ready for crushing,-and I ttust that the result will bring back some of the old prosperity to Tapu.
