THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR P.M. Resurrexi. SATURDAY, APRIL 23, 1881.
We are pleased to learn that the alleged falling through of the Lincolnshire Farmers Settlement Scheme, senfc to us by a correspondent, proves to be a canard. Since last the matter was before the public, Captain Steele, the New Zealand agent for Messrs Grant and Foster, has been quietly arbitrating with the Government, and we have authority for stating that they have agreed cm nearly all the points of difference, the Minister of Lands making important concessions. Several families, whose interests are represented by Captain Steele, are now in Auckland merely awaiting, a complete understanding with the Government to settle on the land. We expect to hear of everything being satisfactorily arranged in a day or two, when settlement will commence withput delay.
