OUR MINES.

At the No. 2 level the manager is driving with a view to picking up the lode beyond .the Calf slide. A similar break occurred above, and the manager expects to have the lode to hand in a day or two. The distance between the Calf and main or Moanatairi slides is estimated at about 150 feet, and the manager expects to get some gold as soon as the continuation of the lode is picked up, an auriferous deposit having been met with in the relative position above. At the No. 3 rising has been started. The lode is six or seven feet thick, showing gold frequently. But little quartz has been broken during the past few days. There is, however, little short of 40 loads broken —most of which is in the hoppers—and crushing will be started first available opportunity.

SOUTHERN CROSS. . The crashing at the Alburma mill is finished for 18ozs of gold. About 30 loads of dirt were treated. This is the poorest crushing yet taken out, and the manager has determined to suspend the surface operations. Driving on the specimen leader will, however, still be con. tinued. '

MOANATAIRI. Retorting will take place to morrow, when a better yield than last is expected. Nothing new of consequence at the mine. GOLD RETURNS. Aibttbnia. —A crushing for Goard and party yielded 14ozs 18dwts gold. KtTßANtri Hiri.—Jury and party's crushing gave 29ozs 12dwts gold. Hape Cbeek.—Mr Greenville banked 2ozs 19dwts gold today.
