The Bank of New Zealand half-yearly meeting shows :—Net profit, £76,464; balance from last half year, £23,337 ; total for division, £99,801; dividend and bonus of 15 percent., j£75,000 ; balance by profit and idss, £24,861. The report was adopted.

Another Fire. The residence of Mr Hancock, of the United Service Hotel, at Epsom, was totally destroyed by the explosion of a ' kerosene lamp. A later telegram says :—- ---" Mrs Hancock got up to attend to her child, when she accidentlly Bet fire to the curtains. The house was totally destroyed." ;' .■•": Lateb. Hancock's house and furniture' was insured in the New Zealand for £1400, but the amount will not half cover the loss. When Mrs Hancock accidently overturned the lamp the flames spread so rapidly to the bed-curtains and furniture that she only escaped in her night dress Everything was lost. : Wednesday. There can be no doubt that fever is still very prevalent in the city and suburbs. Three cases of typhoid, and one of scarlet fever were received into the Hospital during the last week. Sir George Grey is expected to address the Thames electors on Saturday next. William Cotterell, who fell into the water from the wharf last night while in i a state of drunkenness, has been sent to the hospital. The case was therefore remanded for eight days. - Dr and Mrs Harvey retire from the management of the Home for Neglected Children on Saturday.
