Tho Christchurch Races took place yesterday. The day was chilly, with occasional showers. In the morning there was a good attendance of the public. Fbee Handicap—-Nautilus 1, JBilliugsgate 2, Borneo 3. Won easily by a length and a half. Time, lmin. 48|3ecs.
Gbeat Autumn Handicap — Lady Emma I, 1 Sir Modred 2, Governor 3. Lady Emma won by three-quarters of a length amidst hearty cheering, the victory appearing to be highly popular. The time was 2mins 4fsees. Champagne Stakes—Somnus 1, Yattendon—Peeress (colt) 2, Nonpareil 3. Epsom Stakes—On Dit 1, Sir Garnet 2, The Joker 3.
Fatal Accident.
Yesterday Wm Deakin, an elderly man, attempted to cross the racecoure as the horses in the Hack Race were coming in. He was knocked down, aud'died a few moments afterwards.
