Opperman, Esq., a wealthy island trader, was for pome months lying ill at Happemamma, an island of the Kingsm Group, in the Pacific. He had been seized with rheumatic fever, which was followed by complicated disorders of a terribly severe nature, assuming the form of a species of palsy never before known. The sufferer's ,limbs swelled, the legs lost all sensibility to pain; the foot could be wrenched round or the skin pierced with a lance without in flicting the slightest suffering. The sick man was evidently unconscious of his having legs, and his brain was seriously affected aB if with lunacy. In this deplorable state he was kindly brought from the islands to Auck land by Mr H. Henderson in the schooner Coronet, Captain Moeller, and, being a German, he was received by the German Consul, G. Yon der Heyde, Esq., and placed in the District Hospital, where he received treatment for three weeks with, no indication of improvement, his case being pronounced by one and all. a hopeless one. The captain of the Coronet, knowing that extraordinary cures ;had been effected by the use of Hitchem' Celebrated Blood Restorer requested the proprietor of the Blood Restorer to take the case in hand, and a contract was entered into of "No cure, no pay." Mr Hitchens proceeded to the Hospital, examined the invalid and found him in an apparently dying state, with scarcely a spark of life left. Mr Hitchens ordered the suffering man to be removed to his (Mr H's) private residence, where his wants could be personally attended to by Mr Hitchens. The latter administered the medicine (tho Blood Restorer) and used the ointment freely. Meanwhile clergymen called, pronouncing the case beyond the power of man to effect a cure. However after six weeks the effect of the medicine became wonderfully apparent. , The Blood Restorer had acted steadily but surely on the blood; the deadly impurities were gradually eliminated from the system until the Btream of life flowed unchecked in its natural channels over the entire man.
