OUR MINES.

ALBUENIA

The mine manager reported as follows: —As I telegraphed, when we fired a shot in stripping the Star of the South reef we brought down some of the quartz, which showed good colours of gold. The reef is enlarging as we proceed, there being now about two feet of crushiugdirt. I will now get out a crushing as speedily as possible, and should it continue as it has commenced I am confident of its being payable. Should this be the case it will be opening up a new run of ground on which very, little prospecting has been done. I can again cut the reef in a short time by driving a crosscut 180 feet in 70 feet level, which would give a further height of 70 feet of backs, and' again it can be as easily reached from the 160 feet level, so that if it turns out as well as it now promises, we will soon be in a flourishing condition once more. I am very proud of having ascertained the fact of the existence of this reef, as there have been various contradictory reports concerning it—some going so far as to say that there was no reef in that direction, and that I would fiud nothing but bard belts of country which, however, I have avoided and find it a nice class of country, with every appearance of carrying goldbearing reefs.—Thos.
