HAMILTON.

Yesterday.

Richard Kennan, the defendant in the affiliation case, remains in custody, being unable to find sureties. If he does not find them before Wednesday, he will that day be sent down to Mount Eden gaol, and, failing to obtain them, will remain there for six months, after which he will again be brought up, and a verdict again recorded. It is supposed he will agree to adopt the child, and give a lump sum to the mother, and obtain liberty. Admitting the truth of the plaintiff's evidence, which of course cannot be published, the case is a very gross one, the defendant deliberately debauching the complainant's mind by the use of immoral books during his wife's absence in Auckland as a maans to her ultimate seduction.
