THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. TUESDAY, APRIL 12, 1881.

If we read the signs of the times aright, the battle of Education will have to be re-fought, and Denominationalism conquered. We do not apprehend that the storm will burst during the ensuing session of Parliament; but premoni'tidiis of the coming struggle are as thick as the storied leaves of Yallambrosa, and there is a strong probability that Education will ba the war cry of the next general election—which by the Triennial Act takes place next year. Let us look at a few of the signs that lead to the supposition that Denominationalists are arming for the struggle. The Hon J, Hall is well known to ba in favour of Denominationalism. Timeserving Major Atkinson must see that ■that doctrine is advancing in favor with his constituents, or he would not have broached the delicate question at Patea the other day. Mr Walter Johnston, the new Postmaster-Genera], is a Roman Catholic, and a bitter enemy to Secular State Education..., We have thus three of tter-giaiits of the Conser 7 vatiye/party ready to upset the present order of/ things. Nor is that all. The Sabbatarian inhabitants of Southland and Otago are clamoring loudly for the introduction of the Bible into the schools, and are largely supported in all parts of the Colony. Without venturing to express our views on the matter at present, we reiterate that the "upholders of our present system of Education will have warm work very shortly.
