THE IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL.

(To the Edito* of the Evening Star.)

Sik,—l think if your correspondent " Truth Seeker " had been very anxious

to find proof in the Bible of the immortality of the soul he might have done so, for the good old Book is so very accommodating that you can either prove or disprove anything you want from it. Our Lord speaks of eternal life ; He told the young man what he had to do to obtain it, and he said " This is life eternal, to know Thee, the only true God." All this is very misleading if there be no such thing as eternal life. If after death we do not live until the resurrection can that life be eternal when it does not exist. Mr Brown and his party say that immortality is conditional, but according to his own showing immortality cannot be obtained on any condition, for he-says that life and soul do not exist after death until the resurrection. But how can that be immortal what has ceased to be. Then Christ said " I go to prepare a place for you that where I am, there ye shall be also," therefore if he exists and his followers go to him, they must exist also, aud are immortal. Jesus said to the thief on the cross " This day shalt thou be with me iv Paradise," but of course this is a symbol, and if not a symbol then it would hare to be figurative, and if not figurative, then it would have to be a mistranslation, and this is the way to dodge round the corner to avoid meeting a difficulty. Then Samuel was raised by the Witch of Ender. How could she have raised'^i^i if he was not iv existence ? And if it was not him who was it that talked to Saul? If this be denied, why argue from' the Bible at all. Then again, at the Transfiguration on the Mount there were Moses, Elias and Jesus there. Does this not prove that Moses was in existence after death ? Theu John saw a great multitude that no man could number, and he asked from whence came they? The answer was "these are they, . that have come out of tribulation." And was not Abraham iv existence when Lazareth went to his bosom? "Truth Seeker" quotes from the Bible to pro»e that men have no pre eminence over the beast. Everybody knows that man is a long way superior to the beast. This falsehood is made use of to support his theory. I think I have proved from the Bible the immortality of the soul, or that spivlts exist after they leave the body; and this is a fact confirmed by thousands and tens of thousands every day, by departed spirits communing with mortals on earth. " Truth Seeker," and such as he,' might say I do not believe it. That makes no matter, for we are not speaking about what we believe, but of what we know. If any one that has not seen London was to say I do not believe that it exists, would any one be so foolish as to take up any time in trying to him of the fact. And so it is .Wjfft*those that know their departed, friends are iu f existence, and come again to this earth, and communicate with them.,-It:maj)r. be> said that many knowing ones-oh earthS never have had any word from departed spirits, and, therefore, no one ever has had, or will have. This is their logic, but this can hare no effect upou positive knowledge. We ask no one to beliere it, but we ask all to try^and get to know that immortality is a fact, based upon the strongest of evidence. This knowledge is the great want of the age: That man is spirit as well as matter ; that he has a soul as well as a body. " Truth Seeker " says, "It will appear to any honest enquirer that the immortality of the soul is without any foundation in the Bible." What a specimen this is of conceit, ignorance, and bigotry! Hear this, ye thousands and tens of thousands that believe that the Bible teaches the immortality of the soul! Ye are all dishonest because ye do not believe as I d&—l am, &c,
