OUR MINES.

NEW GOLDEN CROWN.

Crushing with the full power of the battery is now going ahead, and the stuff is shaping better than formerly. The manager is opening new blocks for Btoping on the Nos. 1 and 2 reefs, between the battery and 100 feet levels. The winze on No. 1 is down 28 feet, the reef being 2 feet thick ; on.No. 2,8 feet has been sunk. The ground is hard, but the loJe carries good mineral. The contractors at 170 feet level are making good progress. Payable dirt is being broken from No 1; main reef at intermediate "level. Driving on Herival's towards the Caledonian to the right of the crosscut is in progress, and payable dirt is coming forth. Stoping is also in progress with good results. SOUTHERN CROSS. The report of the mine manager is as follows :—Specimen leader: Stoping ii still being continued on this leader below the battery level. Several loads of quartz have been broken since my last rspbtt;, but have got no picked stone, althoftfeh the leader still looks as well. Driving and stoping is also being continued on No. 4 leader. There is a fair amount of crushing stuff coming from here; if it turns out as well at the battery as the last crushing from here did, there is no doubt it would be payable. 100 feet level: I have three trial lots broken out, and am breaking a fourth out of No. 3 lode. This lode is about '50 feel from the U.P.4. shaft. It is 18 inches to 2 feet in thiok* ness, and looks promising; a fair amount of mineral in the stone. I shall' soon be able to get these lots tried, as there is plenty of water for crushing now. Crushing: A crushing' of 32 loads was finished at the Alburnia battery on the 25th of last month for the return of 66ozi Sdwts melted gold. We commenced crushing today. There are about 15 loads of quartz on hand from the specimen and No.' 4 leaders. By the time it is all through there will be 20 loads. ■ ' -
