This day
Last night Mr Collins, M.H.K., gave a dinner at Stoke in honor of Lieutenant Paynter, the rifle champion. There was a large attendanca, and during the evening remarks were made regarding the ti-satment of volunteers by the Governmant. The necessity for retrenchment was admitted, but the hope expressed that the volunteer vote be tirst to increased. Both Messrs Pitt and Collins, M.H.lA's., supported the increased volunteer vote, and Lieut. Paynter stated that Mr Hursthonse, M.H.K., was of the same opinion.
