CHANGING THE COLORS.
The humorous contributor to the Sydney Mail has the following in a recent issue:—lt was a good practical, joke, of which ,the principal constituents were a.bucket„of. liquid whiting, and-an..:.-
ordinary whitewash brush, and the locality was somewhere ou the southfern coast. There was -an agricultural show or a race meeting, to which all the leading men of the district had come. To further enliven thej; proceedings a circus troupe was in!,>,'he. town. The leading men for the greater part cam.c to. the feast on horses, .and these, special permission having beeuobtained, were t^nedi^to a good paddock. There TV.er,e,, bays, and blacks, and these,' w.hile the owners, . were feasting, by the aid of some whitewash before mentioned, some wag converted into pie -and skew balds: M>dnighfc, had come'Tjefdre the> Wst'toast was.rc,s- :- ponded to, and all hands sought itibieir horses to take flight.;, , The ,paddoc,k was . reached,.jand in the dijii light each man > ■ with bridle on arm sought his steed "So ,! many hard words were never beforutitti^ed ' in the district when the ; univni'sui verdict was declared that the circus tnen had lefc'y out the residents' horsos. and 'turned their ■■ own in. The ownerof the-paddock, who was one of the banqueters; wastnore irate ' tlmn any of the lot, and warmly seconded the motion; that every horse of the lot should be put in the pound—and pounded they were. Daylight brought headaches and misgivings, and never were pound fees paid with less cheerfulness. The general desire now in that district is to learn who is the local Landseer.
