At the Magistrate's Court today, the proprietor of the Victoria Hotel was fined £1 for receiving a ring in pledge for drink •applied. Monday. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company report:—The wool sales closed firmly. The total quantity sold- during the sales wa3 260,000 bales. 160,000 bales were taken for export. 3500 have been held for future disposal. Combing and clothing, washed, scoured, greasy and superior, greasy and coarse, washed crossbred, have declined Id per lb ; superior clothing, washed, has declined Id to l^d ; medium and inferior greasy, fine greasy crossbred, coarse greasy crossbred, fine washed crossbred, and fine scoured crossbred, have all declined a rVd to Id per lb. The next sale commences on the tenth of May. At a meeting of the provisional directors of the Wellington and Manawatu railway this afternoon, it was resolved that the question of terminus be left open until the election of permanent directors. It was mentioned that £30,000 bad already been subscribed. Shannon and Nathan were added to the executive committee.
