Correspondence.

A NUISANCE.

(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.)

Sib, —Would you kindly call attention through your columns to the disgraceful state of the drain on the east side of Bailey street, between Mary and Sealey streets? The attention of the Council has been called to it time after time ; the Inspector of Nuisances has been repeatedly spoken to, and Mr John Moon addressed a letter to the Council, which was read at the last meeting fl but little or no notice was taken of it. I may state that the drainiiigs of three stables all run into this gutter, likewise the brine and slops from a butcher's shop, alt of which accumulates at the corner of Bailey and Sealey streets, and it is at the present time in such a putrid condition that it is a wonder some case of fever has not been reported ere this. It is the comment of every passer by, and I guarantee that if the whole town be searched a worse spot could not be found.—l am, &c,

An Unjfobtitnate Househoideb.

(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.),; Sib,—l agree with all that was wrote by Quickstep. That there " Meremere " I read it, it blows and passes up the Scottish^ like he used to the' Engineers, when he belonged to them. I think we should not go to the Waikato, to encourage a slight on a good offiser and captain, who is to be cut out of Ma rites by a captain of the cadets. We had a fine daj and sham fight at Parawai last time, and so we can again.—l am, &c, ' YoLPNTEEB.
