NEW GOLDEN CROWN.
In spite of broken time aqd.other annoyances, during the past month the manager has been able to crush 300 tons of quartz, which on being, retorted to-day gave the satisfactory yield of 2440zs gold gold. Tenders;for driving contract at the 170 feet level were opened by the manager to-day with the ■ following 1 result:— W. McPeake, £1 6s per foot (accepted), C. Hart £1 -10s,J. Marshall £1 ids, Williams and Word £1 8s 9dj and Richard Thomas £2 2s 6d. Although this company is yet scarcely productive enough to pay dividends, it is' turning out sufficient gold to keep 60 men employed—a matter for 'congratulation when it is remembered how long the ground lay unproductive. The following operations are being carried on at present: —Battery level :. Driving and stoping on Herival's leader. Sinking on Nos. 1 and 2 lodes and stoping on the the small leaders between these bodies of stone. Stoping on- intermediate level and stoping on No. 1 main reef at 40 feet level.
