(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.) Sib,—Will you allow me to say a word ~ on the proposed Waik'atb'review; I hare' read the several correspondents for and against, and I am convinced those against the review express the feelings of substantial business people, who have' 'theft? all at stake in this place ; and while they help miners and others,to prospect the field, do not like' to see , the ready cash spent so foolishly out of...thel' district. Let the hard working Volunteers think who are writing up the affair, and they will find them to be men who in receipt, ,of large .stated salaries,^ whose pay ii going,. on,/,and, who, do not, think the poor working' man • will miss a' few ' shillings. Is not, i;he officer in command, getting, an extra £100. per year for,his hobby, together with all the soft r'sbap. that can be rubbed in on these occasions at the expense of the working bees-:, The arguments of "Mere Mere" .are as empty as all his other writings, which are known even amongst his own company as false and exaggerated fabrications, • which have made the Thames Volunteers a by-word in Auckland and other places for their paper " blowing."—-I am, &c, jQuick Step. t
