(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib,—Unaccustomed as I am to newspaper writing, I feel coustrained to pen a few lines on that engrossing subject to Volunteers, the Easter Waikato expedition. How is it that now, every inducement being offered for an economical trip, adverse letters should appear against the proposed excursion. Two years ago, when 400 Thames Volunteers went, they had to pay their steamer fare; now their route is free throughout. Let every Thames Volunteer strain a point arid'go, I say I, so that the name of the Thames Volunteers may be as noted as ever for enthusiasm and esprit de corps. The Coromandel fellows will go at least 50 strong, aad about 500 Aucklaad men, I hear, intend going; surely, then, the Thames should not be behind the door.— I am, &c, PABSIMCWIOUsi
