THE CUP.

(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.) -•. Sib,-—When I wrote to you the other day as an " Enquiring Volunteer," I reckon I wrote respectably, not with any intention of creating by any means " dissension" amongst the members of the T.E.E. Volunteers, and I father no production of which any honest man could feel ashamed. I wrote in a straightforward way a series of questions, which Bny person who had the information could justly answer, if*he was a man, without dropping down to such an amount of,virtuous indignation. R. T.Douglas, in his reply, says, " the matter of the Cup has been repeatedly before the company, and dealt with on parade." That siatement is to some extent so, but not a fact in the way it is given. The question has often been enquired after upon parade, but no satisfactory reply has yet been elicited, but the reverse to the enquirers. If as Capt.-elect of the corps, R. T. Douglas, i 9in possession of the Cup, on behalf of the original competitors, why does he not say so? It must come from darkness to light some day. Let him say, also, how he • came by it. With regard to the knowledge of the men *and their confidence, and the officers' knowledge and confidence, I may have more to say to work that out some day, but I do think K. T. Douglas in replying ought to have left abusive language out of his letter and wrote frankly. As the man, however, since he has not done so, I ghall now challenge any other member of the corps' confidants, and especially^ the top scorer for the "Doctor's Oup," to state his information in reply to my previous questions. I will ask him one more question, " is it true you sold out of the match before you won it ?" —I am an," Enqtjibing-.Volunteer. Shortland, 21st March, 1881.
