. Thursday. The Hon Major . Atkinson, -Colonial Treasurer, has left by steamer for .New Plymouth. ■ ;.'*■ At a meeting of the creditors of E. W. Mills this afternoon, the estate was assigned to Messrs J. H. Keep (representing Keep Brothers, of Birmingham). Messrs J. W; Henderson (Bank of New Zealand)* and Joe Dransfield, Wellington, were 'elected trustees, their remuneration being 5 per cent, on the gross amount divided among the creditors. The meeting expressed sympathy for Mr Mills in his present position, and agreed that he be allowed to retain the whole of his
household furniture, and be granted £500 out of the estate. The Government have received a telegram that Te Whiti's speech to-day was most hopeful. There was a total absence of boasting, and its general tenour was to allow all questions relating to native matters to develop themselves ; that war was not to be, and that the Government of New Zealand would settle everything.
