A MISSING CUP.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sic, —Knowing your columns are at all times open for the instruction and interests of the Volunteers, will you kindly give me space in your next issue to ask a fewquestions. In eighteen hundred an 3*? seventy-nine Doctor Andrews presented to the Thames Rifle Ranger Volunteers a Cup (said to be worth £25) as a prize to be shot for, under certain rules and con-' ditions stipulated by the donor, which were accepted ; and after certain competitions had taken place for the same pressure is said to have been brought to bear upon tha Doctor, aud suggestions offered to him, which caused the Cup to be withdrawn from competition. What was the pressure that was brought to bear ? What were the suggestions offered ? What were the conditions the doctor allowed the officers to prevent the final match being fired? Again, it is rumored that the officers of the above company tried to buy the top scorers (in the matches fired) out of the Cup, so that they might have it for some other.purpose; but that in consequence of their failing to do so, the Cup' has been " planted," and the original competitors will not be allowed to complete the ■•Jttnal"''' match to decide the winner of it. Surely there is something wrong. Can any member of the company explain these questions. The late catptain absolutely refused to give any information on the subject, but perhaps his successor will comply with this request, or if not, some other member of the company may be able to do so—and oblige an Enquibing Voiumteeb Shortland, 17th March, 1881.
