THE PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY AT WELLINGTON.

The Presbyterian Assembly met again on Saturday and agreed to resciud the Students' Evangelistic Act, and tbe Students' Evangelistic Amendment Act, but in consideration of the absolute necessity of rendering the labours of students engaged in practising the .work in remote districts effectual in building up congregations, the AssemblJ^resolved to authorise permission to be t;iven to celebrate marriages and administer baptism under the following regulations :•—l. That permission be given by the Presbytery of boundaries in such cases when the district in which a student is labouring is wide, and where a neighbouring ordained minister cannot undertake the.duty of celebrating marriage and administering baptism within the district under tbe charge of a student. 2. That permission to administer baptism shall continue only during the pleasure of the Presbytery, and shall in all cases cease when the' student removes from the district in respect of which such permission was ; granted. 3 That the student perform this part of his work, as all other parts of his work, under the supervision and control of the minister under whose charge he has been placed. Notice of motion anenfc legislation, and also one concerning the standing of certain students were handed in. The Assembly went into committee on the church agency question, and resuming, the following resolutions were passed :—" 1. That with a view of meeting the present circumstances of the church, and of providing for the necessities of church agency, the Committee recouimend the Roy. David Bruce to work up a third congregation in the S.E. district of Wellington. 2. That the Assembly be prepared to adopt a guarantee of ten or more members, or adherents, of the cuurch at a stipend of £250 a year for three years to aid Mr Bruce in working up a third congregation." The Assembly then adjourned until Monday.
