WAIBB.

(FEOM OUR OWN COSKESPONBENT.)

Waihe, Friday

Several neve claims have been pegged out, and there has been a great rush of the natives to peg out the hill about one mile from Nicholls' find, a large reef and a small one having been known to be there for some time. Lately some good prospects have been obtained from the smaller of the two. Nicholls and mates are pushing on the low level tunnel. They are in a splendid driving country, and expect to cut the reef this week. In the Dulcibel the reef has not been cut yet, although some 25 feet have been driven. A drive is now being put in on the footwall, and although no gold is to be seen, good prospects are obtained in pounding the stone. Several of the other claims intend making a start this week, and there can be no doubt but that from the loose stone found in several of them, that the same reet will be found without much difficulty. Old hands are now anxious to see a start made with the Battery, but it would be advisable for the mine holders to prove their faith in the district and so give encouragemegt to these who have offered to erect the mill. The mere sticking in of pegs will not tell what the country is made of, but all hands will have to put their shoulder to the wheel and push together. If this is done there can be little doubt of the Waitete field being one of the best that we have had in this peninsula, but it will take time and money to try, it and there is little use in anyone coming here unless they are supplied with some cash, as it will be some time before any returns can be expected. ___^__™.
