This day
A two year old son of W. Kranicr, farmer of Moutere, wandered from home into a very rough piece of country, abounding with high manuka and swamps, and after thirty hours the father and a friend discovered the boy who was about starved with hunger and exposure, and in addition got wet through. The child was foand about six miles frum home.
BLENHEIM.
This day
The Mohaka enquiry did not terminate until late yesterday. On the Court resuming, the steward and seaman at the wheel when she ran ashore gave evidence. The other witnesses were Clarke (fireman), and Murray (engineer). After a short retirement, the Court decided to return Captain Symonds' certificate, but the mate's (Eckfod) they suspended during the Governor's pleasure.
DUNEDIN
This day
A man named Henry Lewis Lovell, working at Shag Valley, yesterday had his foot crushed in a thrashing machine. His leg was amputated by Dr Browne, of Palmerston, and the man sent to Dunedin, but he died on the way.
At a meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club last night, the following resolution was carried : —" It having been brought under the notice of the committee that the representative of the owner of the horse .Natator entered for the Porbury Handicap, accepted for race at 10 p.m. on Friday, the 25th of February, and scratched the horse at 10 a.m. on the 26tli, and that the horse was sent by train to Christchurch by the 7.30 a.m. train on the 26th, and the committee having reason to think that the arrangements were made with the railway department for a box for the horse on the evening of the 26th, the Club call upon the Hon VV. Robinson, owner of the horse, for an explanation."
