BLENHEIM.

This day.

Further enquiry into the stranding of the Mohaka commenced this morning be fore Mclntyre, E.M , and Captains Cross and Lambert, Nautical Assessors. At the request of Mr Sinclair, who appeared on behalf of the Marine Department, the master and mate were called by the Court, and were informed that the charge about to be laid against them might result in the cancellation of their certificates. If they were desirous of having time or counsel to enter into a defence they should say so. They stated they did not require time. Mr Sinclair submitted that the mate was guilty of gross carelessness and incompetency in giving up the helm and leaving the vessel in charge of the steward and seaman.
