Third order of merit: George Fleming, Nelson, for tables inlaid wilh .New Zealand woods Fourth order of merit: Alex. Simpson, Waiuku, Southland, for bag-pipes of native material: F. W. Swine, Mauugatapu Nelson, for chrome iron ores. Fifth order of merit: Thomas Condliffe, Malvern Hills, Canterbury, for terra cotta work. Sydney, Tuesday. The cricket match between the Australians and combined team will be concluded to-day.
The cricket match between the Australian team and the Combined Eleven of New South Wales and Victoria was resumed today. The Australians were all disposed of for 85 in their second innings. Murdoch was not out for 31, and McDonnell was caught at 18; they were top scorers. The Combined team thus won the match by 246 runs. A severe hailstorm fell during the adjournment for luncheon, and rendered the ground very dead. The Executive have decided that the sentence of death passed upon William Brown, a farmer in the Manning Hiver District, for criminally assaulting his daughter, 12 years of age, shali be carried out.
