Nelson, Saturday,

The weather was beautiful all day, and the attendance, of visitors during the afternoon was very large, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Nelson. Great interest was shown in the concluding shots of each championship belt. Excellent order was maintained. Paynter fired most steadily during the match, and his victory is decidedly popular. He was champion in 1877. The closing scene of the Carbine Championship was very axciting, McLean, of Wanganui, being loudly cheered when he made 39 out of a possible 40 at the 400 yards, thus tieing the winner, Armstrong, but taking second honors, as Armstrong was the highest in Match No. 7. The follo-.ung are the prize lists in order: — Match XTo. o—Rifles. (Last Match for the Belt.) 200 and 500 yards. Ten shots at each distance. Open to all members of the Association. Entrance fee, ss. Snider rifles, Government pattern. LIST OF PHIZES. One prize of £9, one prize of £8, one prize o.f £7, one prize of £6, one prize of £5, one prize of £4 ; three prizes of £2, five prizes of £1; total number of prizes, 14; total amount of prize money, £50.

The following also made 68 without taking prizes : — Nutsford, Bannister, Remington, Okey, Cooper, and Sampson.
