Your renders might have noticed that a special commissioner was appoiuted some time ago to enquire into certain native
land dealings at Taurangu. Mr Vercoe it is understood was the chief " sufferer." Having enquired who this Mr Vercoe is, I learn that he is simply a brother-in-law of Mr Thomas Eussell. The eommis sioners appointed, namely, Messrs Brookfield and Ivenap, for investigating certain native land dealiugs in -Wpikato are also very much talker] about, but as newspaper telegraphic correspondents are not to impute motives; to a pure Government for their administrative acts, i shall refrain. The Governor aud Ministers I hear have had another jaw. The Premier is anxidus to see the surplus available after the e?id oF the month, so that auother tour of visits and sops may follow. .The Governor thinks on the other hand that the united wisdom of Parliament should be consulted before large expenditures are either contemplated or authorised.
