PENRITH. A murder was committed at Agnes Banks on Tuesday. The victim was a farmer named Freeman, and the murderer was a relation of the deceased of the name of Williams, who came behind and battered in bis skull with a heavy stick. Williams hid himself, but was found, arrested, and lodged in the lock-up. He is supposed to be insane.
TEMORA. There is great excitement about the new reefing district opened two and a half miles south-west of the upper town. Claims hare been pegged out a great distance. One piece of quartz from the prospectors has a piece of gold 2dwts projecting. The reef it is said, has been traced a great distance. A telegram has been received from Clunes, in Victoria, stating that the 33cwt of stone from Buyers'reef, taken by the Victorian buyers, averaged sozs 3dwts ncr ton.-X ■ , P VICTORIA. In the Assembly on Tuesday the Ministers' railway decision to relinquish patronage was approved of by the Opposition, but not by the Liberals, who regarded it as a shame. Constable Walsh, of Wangaretta, has been committed for trial for burglary at the Eoyal Hotel. The revenue of the Eailway Department is showing a steady increase. The date and locality is not given, but the Sub-Inspector of Telegraphs, after a careful enquiry, states that he can hear nothing of the alleged murder.
