THE NELSON RIFLE MEETING

Nelson, Last evening,

At 3 o'clock to-day, Mrs Dodson opened the meeting by firing the first shot, which proved a miss.

FIKST MATCH. 200, 400, and 500 yards—Seven shots at each distance. Open to all members ; entrance, 7s fid. Snider and muzzle loading Enfield rifles or carbine of Government pattern. First prize, £10. Twenty-three prizes in all. 130 competitors appeared for this match, and the scores ou the first range were as follows:—2o9 yards:. All members 7 shots—Downie 27 ; Hughes, Ross, Grossman, Owen, Griffiths, each 26; Paul, Taifc, Closson, Purness, Parslow, Laird, Mackenzie, Best, Ellis, Nutsford, Dingle, Pickets, Somerville, Trayes, Coleman, Thorburu, Thomas, each 25; .Randall, Wifcnon, A. Jessop, Howell, Button, A. Soper, Wilkinson, McDonald, Weir, Mclntosli, Lieut. Ballinger, T. Coskin, Sharland, Loveridge, Suttou H., each 24. The remainder scored 23 or under. Rifle Camp, This day.
