THE NELSON RIFLE MEETING
Nelson, Last evening,
At 3 o'clock to-day, Mrs Dodson opened the meeting by firing the first shot, which proved a miss.
FIKST MATCH. 200, 400, and 500 yards—Seven shots at each distance. Open to all members ; entrance, 7s fid. Snider and muzzle loading Enfield rifles or carbine of Government pattern. First prize, £10. Twenty-three prizes in all. 130 competitors appeared for this match, and the scores ou the first range were as follows:—2o9 yards:. All members 7 shots—Downie 27 ; Hughes, Ross, Grossman, Owen, Griffiths, each 26; Paul, Taifc, Closson, Purness, Parslow, Laird, Mackenzie, Best, Ellis, Nutsford, Dingle, Pickets, Somerville, Trayes, Coleman, Thorburu, Thomas, each 25; .Randall, Wifcnon, A. Jessop, Howell, Button, A. Soper, Wilkinson, McDonald, Weir, Mclntosli, Lieut. Ballinger, T. Coskin, Sharland, Loveridge, Suttou H., each 24. The remainder scored 23 or under. Rifle Camp, This day. The First Match is about finished— Griffiths, of Blenheim, first... 74 Crossman, Nelson, second ... 74 Hughes, Wanganui... ... 73 Ross, Westland .;. ... 73 Paynter, Nelson 73 Several more made 73 Parslow, Thames ... ... 72 Gill may come in 70 Downie made 27 at the 200 yards, but I won't take a prize.
