THE PUBLIC LIBRARY.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sir, —In looking over the report of the Borough Council meeting in last evening's issue of the Stab, I observed that the Library Committee hare decided to order Messrs Upton and Co. to discontinue sending the Nineteenth Century and the Contemporary Reviews, among other papers, to the public library. lam greatly surprised that the gentlemen on the Committee should have ordered their discontinuance, inasmuch as better reading matter than is to be found in these two reviews could not be found. If this is the way the public library is to be managed, I, for one, would suggest that a private book and magzine club should be formed in order that we should not be deprived of standard reviews. If such. were started, I should feel pleasure in subscribing to it.—l am, &c,
